When was the last time you did something stupid?

It’s important to know … and if you have no memory of ever having done anything stupid please rectify that immediately!

The recent Quiz conducted by the Sales Coach blog got just 8 responses. This blog has been averaging 43 visits a day and the quiz got 81 views in 2 days – that means just 10% dared or cared enough to send in a reply  – the highest score of 4 was achieved by two regulars Quizzers who have no background in Sales – it was guts and glory stuff for them. I am sure a few more readers made the attempt but decided against responding for fear of sounding stupid.

Wise men have said that if you have never ever failed in life you have not done anything new … you have never challenged your limits.

And a lot of people consider failure, or being wrong, equivalent to being stupid.

The truth is that they aren’t stupid, they just seem so to people who love to play it safe. So while the smart guys get stuck in 9 to 5 jobs and get decent incomes the stupid guys try to run, stumble, even fall, but they get up again and eventually run so far that they reach much beyond the steady guy’s wildest dreams.

I appreciate the five respondents who in spite of the lack of domain knowledge bravely sent in answers, even when there was the chance of being way off target.

They did not worry about being considered stupid – who am I to call them stupid? And not knowing an answer is not a sign of stupidity, it only means that you are not aware of the right answer!

The other three respondents had previous knowledge of Sales but did not get all the answer right – and they too dared to be wrong and stupid.

Big deal! It’s just a quiz. So what if you are wrong?

And how are you going to know the right answer unless you try? Are we stopping ourselves from claiming the big prizes in life because we are afraid of being foolish?

While the smart ones analyze the situation and permit their head comes up with a million reasons for not trying, the stupid ones go by their gut feel and jump in even if they are only half sure of getting it done … and in all likelihood they would fail because the attempt was not good enough. But the result of the first attempt gives them insights that make them less stupid and they try again. This time they are closer to success; soon they reach such levels of success that makes the rest of us wonder how we ever thought them to be stupid – it was our ignorance that made them appear that way.

So, if you want to get anywhere interesting in this life, get off that comfortable couch right now and do something stupid – That would be a smart move!

    Very true.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Unless you have seen the rest of the world, don’t claim you live in the best place in the world; unless you have tried working in a few different companies don’t harbor the wrong belief you work for the best or that you might not be able to do better elsewhere, until you do kick out the highly demanding client who hogs your time and bargains with you to the bones you won’t know what a drain on your time and resources they were.

Good thoughts! It helps to take a wider view – a different perspective.

Many of us forget or just aren’t aware of the need for such an approach. It will help us to make better decisions.
